1. **Hydrate and Eat:** Drink plenty of water! Set a timer to remind you to drink. Make sure to have plenty of snacks handy. Prioritize healthy, well-balanced meals.
2. **Sleep:** I know this sounds impossible with a newborn but it is essential to get 3-4 hours of uninterrupted sleep a day + naps throughout the day. Ask for help to meet this goal.
3. **Process Emotions:** Be kind to yourself. There are lots of different emotions after having a baby. Every day may be different and that’s okay. Ask for help if you feel like you are experiencing postpartum depression.
4. **Manage Pain:** Whether you had a c-section or vaginal delivery, your body has been through a lot. There are many reasons your body may be hurting. Listen to it and seek medical attention if needed.
5. **Create a Team:** Assemble a list of people that can help. Have a pediatrician lined up. Make sure to utilize your OB for any questions you have about your health and recovery. Make a list of friends and family for chores, meals, emotional support, or for when you just need a break.
